Manholes in Lagos

Lagos state, happens to be the second most populous state in Nigeria but ironically has the smallest landmass with an area of 3345 km2
Large cities most times have a problem of inadequate or non functional infrastructure. Apart from bad roads that happen to be synonymous to Lagos state, there is also the problem of open manholes.

Adewura Latifat Bello passed away in the month of May and was announced dead on May 26. She died after falling into a manhole on a rainy night. This case was popular as it got a lot of social media attention. She was first reported missing and was later found dead in a canal. What could be done to prevent such from repeating? As a disciple of zeros and ones that I am, I thought it would be great to have a database of open manholes around lagos as it would be easier to pressure the state government into finding lasting solutions if there is credible data to back up our claims. Hence, I decided to create adewura.

The project lives at https://manholelagos.org

I built the frontend using NuxtJS (server side rendering framework for VueJS), backend using golang, image storage on cloudinary, nginx for reverse proxy and supervisor to daemonize the processes. The project is not open source yet, anybody willing to collaborate can reach out to me on @moshosanya . Most of the frontend work was done by @yezuz_sama

The project is meant to be easy to use and functional, being beautiful is also important but currently the least of our worries.

If you live in Lagos, Nigeria, please do well to submit an entry when possible. Peace
